Learn the basics of upholstery techniques including the operation of our industrial sewing machine. You’ll walk away with the skills you’ll need to take future upholstery classes, as well as a new awareness of how to bring new life to old furniture.

ADX provides scraps of material for practice; this class focuses on tools and does not include a project.
INSTRUCTOR: Jonathan runs his upholstery business, Functional Art, out of ADX and loves sharing his knowledge and experience with ADX members and visitors. Jonathan has over 30 years experience and can upholster just about anything. He recently upholstered furniture for The Importance of Being Earnest at Artists Rep. In order to register for PATA Generals, attending an Informational Session is REQUIRED for anyone who hasn't auditioned at PATA Generals in the past 10 years. We have made a number of changes recently and want to ensure you are properly prepared to bring the best audition you can.

The class will offer an invaluable grounding in vital skills required for auditions and ongoing training. Participants will be armed for auditions with a polished classical and contemporary song and prepared with one monologue, as well as tips and techniques to remain relaxed and confident in audition situations.
General audition presentation, delivery, attitude and focus will be covered and the class will end with a mock audition session to practice the skills learned during the class.
Please come prepared with:
1.) Your book of songs
2.) Two picture and resumes
3.) one monologue
4.) Dress in the attire you deem most appropriate.
Experience in acting whilst not a necessity would be beneficial.

DAN MURPHY is the founding Managing Director of The Broadway Rose Theatre Company along with his wife, Producing Artistic Director Sharon Maroney . They have been producing live theatre in Tigard since 1992. He has directed and/or choreographed and occasionally appeared in over 60 productions throughout the company’s history. He is a four-time Drammy award winner for directing, choreographing, and acting. Some of the local companies he has worked with are Pixie Dust Productions, Lakewood Theatre, Oregon Children’s Theatre, and Stumptown Stages. Some other companies he has worked with but have since closed (through no fault of his) include Magdelyn Theatre Co., The Musical Theatre Co. and Portland Rep. Not only is his work known throughout the greater Portland area but it has taken him to Birmingham, AL, Sanford, NC, Fort Collins, CO, and Lancaster, PA, as well as the riverboats along the Willamette, Columbia, and Mississippi Rivers.
DARCY WHITE is a force of nature with a fierce love for Portland and great music. She is the founder and artistic director of the popular monthly cabaret series, Cabaret White. Darcy is also an award-winning pianist and music director. She has worked for many theater companies in and around Portland, OR, including Broadway Rose, Lakewood Theatre Company, Live on Stage, Oregon Children's Theatre, and Triangle Productions.
