General Audition FAQs

What do I have to do in order to participate in the general auditions?

It depends on your status.  Per below:

If you are a new PATA member / 1st-Time Auditioner:
You must attend one of PATA's Informational Workshops in order to register for an audition slot.

If you have successfully auditioned at PATA Generals in the past 10 years and are current on your membership dues:
Simply make sure your membership is current, and register for PATA Generals here once website registration begins on March 5th, 2017 @ 10am.

If you are an Equity member in good standing with a current equity card on hand:
Equity Auditions will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017. You must bring your current equity card to the audition. No equity card, no audition.

If you live more than 100 miles from Portland and cannot attend an Informational Workshop:
You may choose to become a PATA member, and if there are audition slots open after local members register, those slots will be open to you. Unfortunately, we make no guarantees about the availability of these slots.

If you have any questions about how to proceed with registration, please email us at info@portlandtheatre.com.

Do I have to be a PATA member in order to audition?

Yes, typically only PATA members are allowed to participate in our annual General Auditions.

    Special Exceptions:

    • If you are a current TPS (Theatre Puget Sound) member in good standing, you may audition without becoming a PATA member.
    • If you are an Equity (AEA) member in good standing, you may audition without becoming a PATA member. You will be required to have your current Equity card on hand for the auditions. Failure to present your card will result in the loss of your audition slot.

If you fall under the above exceptions, contact us at info@portlandtheatre.com.

How do I register for the PATA General Auditions?

Registration for the 2017 PATA Generals will open on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 10am.

Audition slots will be held for younger members during specific times. Please see the 2017 General Auditions Schedule for details.

    • You must be a current PATA, TPS or Equity member to register.
    • Audition slots will be available on April 7th, 8th & 10th.
    • Members 17 years and younger will have specific times set aside for their auditions.
    • There is a $15 printing fee to register for PATA Generals.  This fee helps to cover the cost of the audition binders full of headshots and resumes that each of our auditors takes home with them to cast from during the year.

Please make sure your membership is current in order to receive important audition information. Look for your confirmation email after you register to ensure that your registration was completed properly.  If you do not receive a confirmation email, contact info@portlandtheatre.com.

How do younger members register for the PATA General Auditions?

Members 17 years and younger will have specific times set aside during General Auditions.

Audition slots will be held for younger members during specific times. Please see the 2017 General Auditions Schedule for details.

I want to do musical theatre.  What should I do?

If you are only interested in musical theatre, you may audition with a combo audition (singing & acting) or during our singing-only auditions on Sunday, April 17th.

Audition slots will be held for younger members during specific times. Please see the 2017 General Auditions Schedule for details.

Please ensure that you have read PATA's 2017 General Auditions Information Sheet for tips.

Do I need to qualify to do a singing audition?

If you haven't attended PATA Generals before, you MUST attend one of the Informational Workshops PATA will be hosting for FREE.  (These workshops are mandatory if you wish to register for an audition, but everyone is invited!).

Please ensure that you have also read PATA's 2017 General Auditions Cheat Sheet.

How does the Waitlist work for PATA Generals?

If auditions slots fill up before you are able to get one, never fear. You can register for the waitlist by paying the $15 printing fee, and your headshot & resume will be included in the audition binder whether or not we are able to pull you off of the waitlist.

What if I need to cancel my audition?

We understand, of course, that life happens and things come up.  If you need to cancel and are able, please login to the PATA site and cancel your audition.  Otherwise, please email info@portlandtheatre.com as soon as possible, or leave a message at 971-803-7712.  If you simply do not show up at your audition, you will be considered a No Show, and you will be unable to audition for PATA for the following year.
